TPE 4 Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students

This is a link to a group project that embodies TPE 4.4. "Plan, design, implement and monitor instruction, making effective use of instructional time
to maximize learning opportunities and provide access to the curriculum for all students by
removing barriers and providing access through instructional strategies that include:
• appropriate use of instructional technology, including assistive technology;
• applying principles of UDL and MTSS;
• use of developmentally, linguistically, and culturally appropriate learning activities,
instructional materials, and resources for all students, including the full range of English
learners;
• appropriate modifications for students with disabilities in the general education
classroom;
• opportunities for students to support each other in learning; and
• use of community resources and services as applicable."

In ITL 602, I had to reflect on how it is important for each student to advocate for their own needs and learning strategies. Inspired teachers should always assess each student in order to tailor their lessons to the needs of the class. This reflection is an overview of TPE 4.

     I examined TPE 4.5 for my showcase assessment. This TPE discusses how it is important to promote student success by allowing students to advocate for their own learning strategies. I think that in order to successfully teach a class, a teacher must assess each student’s personality and learning abilities so that each lesson plan will successfully communicate the information that must be absorbed. Through my field work with Merit Academy, which is a Special Education School for mild/moderate students, I learned that it is possible to teach and tailor each lesson for each student if the class sizes are smaller. This school has class sizes of about ten students, eventhough this is not possible to most schools, this just goes to show how beneficial small class sizes are for the students. Th teachers at Merit Academy also have assessments done of each student. Whether it is an actual IEP or if it is just and assessment of their behavior. Once the assessments are finished, each teacher of the student is allowed to collaborate on how best to teach and reach this student. My infographic shows exactly what to do in order to teach kids who are challenged by the traditional form of education.
     TPE 4.8 stresses the importance of digital tools and learning technologies. At Merit Academy, the students use tablets for school work. This allows full collaboration with the teacher and allows the student to be more in control of their learning experience. It also allows the the teachers to change the lessons for each children. They can assign more remedial assignments for those who may have struggled with the in-class instruction or they can give the student who is advanced, more difficult work. Each student is different and both of the TPE’s address that teachers must learn how to teach different students, regardless of social-emotional development.
